All students applying for full-time status should comply with the following checklist.

  1. An application form, either online or hard copy. A paper application must be accompanied by payment of the $40 application fee. If paying by check or money order please make the check payable to Washington University. Paper applications without the application fee cannot be processed.
  2. Three letters of recommendation from faculty or persons familiar with your abilities.
  3. Official transcripts of your complete undergraduate and graduate records (not those issued to student or xerox copies).
  4. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores: verbal, quantitative, and analytical required.
  5. Statement of Purpose identifying the type of research in which you are interested as well as your career goals and plans for the future.

International students are asked to submit TOEFL scores and bank certification.

A TOEFL score of 220 is considered to be minimal and may exempt a student from further English study at our university. Additional testing for English proficiency will be required upon a student's arrival. Before student visas can be issued we must receive proper financial certification. Bank certification must cover tuition ($24,606) per year, 9 credit units each semester) and cost of living expenses ($16,100) plus health insurance ($660) for the first academic year, totaling $41,366 for the 2006-2007 academic year, and may originate from the student or his sponsor. If a sponsor is providing financial assistance we need a letter from the individual or from the organization stipulating willingness to provide financial assistance along with a statement specifying the amount of financial assistance to be provided and a bank certification showing the availability of the funds.

Upon receipt of all required items your application will be reviewed. We have rolling admission and you will be notified of your status after our Graduate Admissions Committee has reviewed your file. Please remember that no action can be initiated until all items have been received, including the application fee. For students seeking financial aid for the Fall semester, applications and all documentation should be received by January 15th.
