Council Meeting Minutes - Revised

The meeting was convened by Peggy Holly at 5:00 PM in the Building 100, Conference Room 2 East.

OLD BUSINESS

 

·     Minutes from last meeting –  Minutes were accepted.

 

·     Treasurer’s Report – The section account balance report shows a total balance of $5,254.05. AIAA Section Audit and Budget Form was distributed for review. The final budget must be in hand by 31 July. Additional projected budget items should be sent to her ASAP.

 

·     Region V Representative – No Report

 

·     Committee Reports

Arrangements – Walt Reschke (no report)

 

Attendance – Andrew Cary

There was no meeting last month. We need to explore ways of increasing attendance at our dinner meetings. Web-based ticket distribution was discussed, including paying by credit card. Additional info will be gathered: 1) credit card fees, 2) past losses on meals.

 

Career Enhancement – Steve D’Urso

Information on the AIAA National Site is aimed at helping AIAA members move between companies as they advance their careers. We are thinking of setting something like this on a local level. Activities could include 1) round table discussions with company executives, 2) help with writing resumes, interviews etc. A plan for 2001 programs will be assembled.

 

Education – Marty Ferman (no report)

 

Historian – Fred Roos (no report)

 

 

Honors and Awards – Ray Cosner

Ray was unable to attend. Betsy Fry was announced as the recent winner of the Lawrence Sperry Award and Young Professional Award.

 

Membership – Joe Stemler (no report)

Strategic Planning – Larry Brase

This committee has been chartered to create a 2-5 year plan to address the reduced level of participation by the local aerospace community in AIAA. Volunteers needed.

 

Tech. Specialist / Mini Symposium – No chairperson

 

Webmaster – John Donigan (no report)

 

Young Members – Jeff Gray (no report)

 

Young Professional Award – Ron Smith (no report)

 

Science Center Event – Karen Copper

Liberty Bell 7 event at Science Center Exploradome on 21 July, 7 pm - ?. This will be held jointly with the Sages and the Leadership Association. Marks 40th anniversary of mission launch. Speaker TBD. Former McDonnell Aircraft employees who worked on Project Mercury will be featured along with period music. Retro-dress encouraged. Refreshments include gourmet dessert buffet and cash bar. Tickets are $15. Reservations required, with ticket pickup at the door. Working on including Omni-Max showings; need an underwriter for the cost. Volunteers needed to decorate tables.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

·        Larry Brase was presented with a certificate and pin in recognition of his recent service as section chair.

 

·        Karen Copper and Larry Brase will be attending the AIAA Leadership conference on 13-14 July in Baltimore.

 

 

·        Next Meeting is 6 August.
