JANUARY 1999

Chairman's Corner

Well, it's now January and the AIAA program year is half over. Your St. Louis Council has produced some outstanding meetings and we intend to make the second half of the year even better. In January alone we will have three great events. The first: a dinner meeting, the annual General Aviation Super Safety Seminar, and finally a specialist meeting.

The January dinner meeting will be held January 21st at the Airport Marriott Hotel. This meeting will be in our traditional dinner format. While we have adopted an informal format for the majority of meetings, the Council believed this meeting deserves a formal setting. Tickets will be available from the usual ticket sellers. I personally invite all of you to attend and find out firsthand what is happening on the JSF program.

For our General Aviation community, the annual General Aviation Super Safety Seminar will take place Superbowl weekend. This annual event features FAA and industry speakers and is always well attended.

January 27th will be our first Technical Specialist meeting of the year. The featured speaker will be Mr. James Harford. He will provide the inside story of how the Russians tried to beat America to the moon. This meeting will also be a recruitment drive for AIAA. A prospective member who attends this meeting will be provided a ticket to a future AIAA dinner meeting as well as instructions on how to get the first year's AIAA membership paid by Boeing (employees only). And, by the way, this meeting is free. Watch for the announcements.
